I am happy to provide you with a free 20-minute session to discuss how narrative therapy might be of benefit to you regarding your current circumstances or a life event. Below are a list of my standard rates for individual sessions, however, if you are struggling financially we can also discuss a sliding scale arrangement. I would really like to work with you if you are looking for a new and exploratory form of therapy.

How Does it Work?

 

Narrative therapy work is ongoing and will require some personal commitment of time and resources. I work best with those who are motivated to do the work in bringing deep personal and emotional changes into their lives. Our work together will require a commitment of time to overcome and potential resistances that is naturally brought about by your own current thinking and beliefs.

 

That is to say, it is difficult to bring about transformative change in a single session.  

I believe that the introductory three-session start-up package is the best way to commit to our time to work together, to understand the process and to build a connection so that we can further our narrative work in a collaborative way. With a minimum of three sessions, we will be able to unpack some of the current situations or problems you are facing, understand your relationship to those issues and explore alternative narratives to support your personal growth and well-being. 

Our work together does not need to be and should not be indefinite, however, I would strive for a minimum of 3 sessions to ensure the best possible outcome and to give you a personal sense of success. This will require mutual trust and collaboration as we co-create preferred narratives that are best aligned with your personal and unique desires, priorities, and ambitions. 

Booking Packages

Please consider your package choice carefully. Packages must be prepaid and are non-refundable. You have up to one year to use all of your sessions. I recommend the 3-pack start up for new clients, but have other smaller, and larger packages at reduced rates.

Pre-booking and Scheduling

To ensure regular scheduling, I recommend pre-booking appointments two weeks in advance. If you feel some urgency in your situation, please email me through the contact form and I will do my best to accommodate you. 

Free Consultations

Prior to purchasing sessions, you can book a FREE 15-minute consultation with me by phone or Skype to help you decide if our collaboration is a suitable fit for us. While I am open to offering my narrative therapy services to anyone who is interested, it is also important for me to work with clients who are willing to go deep, be honest, and open to new possibilities. 

One-Hour Sessions
Each of our sessions will be exactly 60 minutes. This will give us time to explore any immediate concerns, delve into your personal narrative, and begin working towards identifying some of your personal goals, planning, and initiatives. You will never be cut short before this time, however all sessions will end at the 60-minute mark. 

Telephone or Skype/Zoom Sessions
I am happy to provide narrative therapy services to clients all over the world, especially in the U.S. where I maintain an active presence. I do not believe that audio or video calls impact the quality of our work and have seen powerful and effective results with phone counseling. This can be an enticing alternative for those who don't have time for a commute, have small children at home, or with a busy work schedule. I am available to you and can provide you with this flexibility, and with some planning, even across multiple time zones. 

Serious Mental Illness and Referrals

As I am not a medical psychologist or psychiatrist, I will refer any client to outside resources if your condition is beyond the scope of my capabilities. My work is not in diagnosing or treating mental illness, rather at accessing the narrative that impacts your thinking, relationships, decisions and behaviors. I am fully competent in my abilities and process, however there are certainly issues beyond the scope of my practice.

Frequency of Sessions

It is my hope that you will find some healing measure in each of our sessions. While you might not experience profound life changes in an hour, I do expect that our time will give you a sense of relief, calm, and the feeling of space and potential. The duration of our work together depends a lot on what you are seeking to change. It is possible that you are in the beginning stages and you just have the feeling something is "wrong."

 

Our sessions can also be an antidote to mild stress, anxiety, relationship conflict, and negative thinking. Whatever you feel is a struggle, we can shed light on it, find out if there are negative narratives surrounding the problem, and identify alternative ways of seeing your situation. 

That being said, I recommend the following frequencies:

 

Weekly sessions: Taking on one session per week is a powerful choice to make progress, process old pain or trauma, take on negative thinking patterns, and restructure narratives in your favor. It is also beneficial to those who are undergoing a stressful life event, like divorce, illness, or new motherhood in processing the complicated emotions. 

Every other week: I know that the cost of therapy is a significant investment. For some patients, every other week gives them the healing power of therapy, the regularity and stability of recurring sessions, without the financial and time pressure of weekly sessions. I believe that any ongoing commitment to narrative healing work can give you a solid ground in facing everyday life challenges. 

Monthly sessions: A monthly session is best for those who have already completed a number of sessions and simply want to maintain the stability they have achieved. You may have picked up on the techniques and work we have done in our sessions and even learned to apply this on your own.

 

At any point in our therapy you can move on to monthly sessions and phase out into check-ins, or ending our work together, as it suits you. I simply want to be a supportive person in your process, however long that takes, in whatever arrangement that looks like for you. 

Free Sessions

For those of you who aren't familiar, I also have a podcast, featuring stories of transformative change. I will be offering free sessions to clients who are interested in having our session recorded for this podcast in order to help others. You will of course, remain anonymous. Not everyone will qualify for this type of session, but please let me know if you are interested.
